Plans, organizes, and directs the construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers. Supervises the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants. Supervises equipment service and repair facility. Assists in planning, scheduling, and supervising the construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers. Supervises repair and maintenance of all mechanical and motorized equipment used on the golf course. Instructs equipment operators. Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pump, irrigation, and drainage systems. Scouts the course for potential problems. Oversees the ongoing daily work activities of the groundskeepers and equipment operators in a safe, efficient manner. Works with the golf course green staff on the many facets of their work responsibilities.

Inspects, adjusts, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical defects in the many types of equipment. Does mower grinding and sharpening. Performs general overhauls of engines. All repairs to parts on mowers. Occasional automotive painting or body repair. Assists the Equipment Mechanic. Operates, maintains, and repairs a complex irrigation system, including leaks in distribution lines, valves, and risers. Repairs control lines and sprinkler heads. Maintains and repairs the master and satellite controllers. Operates and maintains the well and pumping station. Periodically inspects the various components of the irrigation and drainage systems to ensure they are operating properly. Maintains records of water use and water quality analyses.

Scouts and assists in diagnosis of nutrient deficiencies and pest problems such as weeds, diseases, and insects. Quantitatively measures, loads, and applies fertilizers and pesticides. Organizes and maintains fertilizers and pesticides storage buildings. Properly disposes of excess chemicals and containers. Regularly calibrates fertilizers and pesticide applicators. Prepares soil plantbeds, establishes by seed or transplants, and maintains annual and perennial flowers in aesthetically pleasing arrangements. Plants and maintains ornamental shrubs and trees; these tasks include appropriated pruning, trimming, root feeding, and pest control. Operates mechanical and power equipment used in the maintenance of ornamental plants and trees. Operate multi-unit hydraulic mowers and/or tractor-drawn gang mowers in mowing golf course turfs. Operates mechanical loaders in moving soil, debris, and other materials. Drives tractors and dump trucks. Maintains, lubricates, and makes minor adjustments to equipment. Also may, occasionally be required to perform the tasks of the groundskeeper.

Grades and prepares a soil plantbed, lays sod, plants vegetative material, and seeds putting greens, tees, fairways, and roughs. Changes hole location and tee-markers. Maintains ball washers and water hazards. Rakes and maintains bunkers. Assists in construction of new greens, tees and fairways by grading, preparing soils, and planting. Operates light equipment in hauling materials and removing debris.
